A Little Love Story

On July 20th, 2024 I married the love of my life, Theodore.

Mother Nature blessed us with a beautiful day as our friends and family gathered to celebrate. Theodore and I have known each other for 10 years. The first time I ever saw him was my very first class and first day of college. I remember getting to class early and ready for this new experience in my life. Class had already begun and about 5 minutes in, a guy walks in, hat backward and backpack swinging off one shoulder, he made his way to the front and found his seat. All I could think of in that moment was..."Who does this guy think he is walking in late on the first day?"

This guy was Theodore. I was quick to judge. I didn't know he had a class before this one all the way across campus, making it impossible to get to his next one on time. We all went around the room introducing each other to the class. When he said his name and smiled, call it a woman's intuition, but I somehow knew he was going to mean something to me in my life.

Little did I know that something was going to be my best friend and husband.

All I remember is thinking, "How can I meet him?" Not even a couple days later my very good friend from high school, Nathan, came by my dorm room where I roomed with my twin sister Shannon and said, "You have to meet my new friend Teddy." My heart knew it was Theodore from my English class. I hardly knew anyone else named Teddy and to me, at the time, it was a unique name.

What are the odds. My friend Nathan sat next to Theodore in the class before my class...the one that makes him late to my English class every other day.

The funny thing is, my twin turned to me as Nathan left to go get Teddy and said, "I call dibs." When I look back at it now, we both laugh at the thought of my twin sister calling dibs on my future husband. She even included that part in her speech on our wedding day.

We finally met Teddy. All I can say is, he matched our weirdness. We instantly connected and I knew this guy was going to be a good friend to me. Nathan, Shannon, Teddy and I snuck in to a campus building at night as we were getting to know this goofball. We found a room with these rolling chairs and flew around the campus hallways, down ramps just laughing. I remember Teddy saying, "Look what I can do!" He then does this funny thing with his adam's apple while making this funny noise. Shannon, Nathan and I look at each other and just start breaking out in laughter. I knew I just found a friend that I can be my complete self around.

This is where our story began. Two years later he asked me to be his girlfriend. It's amazing how we became friends first. I remember my love for him growing so strong because I truly cared for him as a friend. There was even a moment where I thought..."we will just be friends and that's okay." But I knew I wanted us to be more. Without either of us knowing, we both had the same mindset...if we both just kept hanging out with each other, then maybe...just maybe we would become more than friends.

The day he realized that he had feeling for me was when we all went to a haunted trail in Hudson, WI together. I made sure to stand next to him on the trail so I could bump into him every time I got "Scared." Little did he know that I wasn't scared. It was so late that night on our drive home. He was crouched over in his seat resting and I laid my head on his back. In that moment he started to think about how we could be more than friends.

I could go on and on about how our relationship just grew from there. I looked back at it and it just makes my heart so full. I wouldn't change a thing about our story. Of course we have had our hard times as well but we got through it together and I wouldn't be where I am without him by my side.

Forever and For Always Theodore.
