A lot of women walk around everyday... And you would never think that anything was wrong. They smile, continue to do the work and show up as women are supposed to....right? But what you didn't know was the constant headaches from the medications that were sustaining her body. What you didn't notice was the fatigue every single day as she worked harder to adapt to this new reality. You didn't notice the constant hospital visits, hoping those numbers looked a little better than they were a month ago. But why would you notice? She looks healthy.

Or is she just a woman who is expected to push through the discomfort and put on a brave face. This painting is a representation of women whose battles...beneath the surface...often go unnoticed.

The Blue Jays that surround her represent protection, strength, resilience, confidence and communication. Emerging from their beaks these vines grow with some leaves, weathering and turning yellow. The vines represent that sickness and illness. Gentle bundles of baby's breath cover her eyes. Representing life, faith, and a mother's love.
