“The Wings of the Raven”
This painting reflects the darker, emotional weight of our childhood experiences. The ravens symbolize the moments we carry with us as we grow older. Vines extend from their beaks, mirroring the vines emerging from the woman’s mouth. As the leaves begin to wither and yellow, they represent the difficulty of sustaining growth and healing. Yet, they also suggest that using our voice, can guide us toward that healing.
 
Ravens are often seen as symbols of transformation, intelligence, and wisdom. These qualities exist within us, even as we navigate our own past trauma. When we experience hardship at a young age, our perception of the world and the people around us shifts. However, nature remains constant, a place where we can feel safe, understood, and seen. In this piece, both the woman and the ravens are depicted without eyes, reflecting the idea that nature understands us beyond what others see.  Beneath the woman, lies a vibrant underpainting. I intentionally selected a vibrant underpainting to capture the idea that despite our darker experiences, we can bring color and light to the world. 
 
This piece reflects my own personal experience. I hope she makes you feel seen, because she makes me feel seen. I grew up in a family who struggles with addiction and abuse, where women were not always honored or appreciated. As an adult, I find myself revisiting those darker moments, not to remain in them, but to acknowledge them. I allow myself to feel what I need to feel. I no longer have to pretend those parts of my story don’t exist. That acceptance is what this painting represents.
