"Tears of The Raven"
This painting reflects the depth of our spirit and the depth of our memories. As we grow older, we naturally reflect on our past, trying to make sense of our experiences in life. We often ask these questions of why we went through what we did and why is it resurfacing? We notice time going faster and our face changing. We notice ourselves crying more often because, like the water, we need our emotions to flow. We can't risk dams trapping our energy. This woman is submerging herself in these emotions and allowing them to come to the surface, no matter how heavy they may be. She is in a time in her life where she needs to decide the new direction she will begin to walk. This new direction feels like she is abandoning who she used to be. The Raven not only symbolizes this new transformation, but also the part of our nature we don't want to let go of. Nothing in nature stays exactly the same throughout our lifetime. So we shouldn't have the same expectations. You will still be you, but you will also be a new version of yourself. Dear woman, I know it's scary...but you can do this.
COLLECTION: "If These Wings Could Fly" is inspired not only by the process of creating these pieces, but the idea that women will always continue to seek their freedom of self and self expression.
The process of creating these pieces have challenged me to let go of everything that I know and everything that is comfortable. Reminding me that I have the freedom to make changes and to try new things. It's the same in our lives.
As women we have adapted for so long. We kept quiet because it was comfortable enough and easy enough to get by...even though our words and concerns fell on deaf ears. But this series of paintings will be the reminder that women deserve to feel seen, heard and understood...deserve to fly free and to change our minds freely.
