This piece has truly been a journey to create. From the start, I had a clear vision of her—I knew she needed to live on a large canvas. I couldn’t shake the image from my mind: a woman with an open wound on her chest, and a scar stretching from her throat up her neck.
But beneath the wound, there is light—life growing within her. It seeps out through her mouth and eyes as she slowly begins to heal. Her tears fall gently, sinking into the wound as if watering the life inside her. She heals by returning to the pain, by revisiting old wounds.
The emotion she carries is powerful, and it reflects what so many women feel today. While her meaning runs as deep as her scars, each woman will connect with her in a unique way. Still, I believe almost all women will recognize themselves in her—will see their own strength, vulnerability, and healing mirrored in her image.
